CURRENT COMMUNITY PROGRAMS:

• Animal Protection Agent: We have three commissioned Bureau of Animal Protection Agents commissioned by the Colorado Department of Agriculture. With this commission, our Agents assist local law enforcement in animal cruelty investigations.
• Spay and Neuter Programs: The Family Pet Assistance Program provides free spay and neuter services to low income individuals. This program is vital to preventing pet overpopulation.
• Financial Medical Assistance: We work with Mountain Mobile Veterinary Services and Hospital who established the Pets Who Need Help Fund and the Vail Valley Animal Hospital who established the Megan Counselman Fund to provide funding for animals needing critical care assistance when their humans cannot afford the care.
• Volunteer Program: Our volunteers participate in our programs for fundraising, adopt-a-thons, foster care, cat adoption center and more!
• Free Dog Behavior and Training Classes: Free training classes (five weeks per session) are offered to anyone living in Eagle County who has adopted a dog (not just dogs adopted from EVHS). Mark Ruark, CPDT-KA leads this class every Tuesday night throughout the year with several trained volunteers. He and our Director, Char Gonsenica, CPDT-KA are also available to talk with adopters to help them with any of their dog’s behavioral problems. Finding a solution to a behavioral problem ensures a successful adoption. Please call Char at 970-280-5738 to sign up for a class.
• Foster Care Program: Our extensive Foster care parents care for our homeless animals while they are prepared for adoption. Our foster care volunteers provide the special attention and care at home prior to being placed for adoption.

• Trap-Neuter-Return Program: Feral cats in the community are spayed/neutered and returned to their home or relocated to a barn or ranch.
• Bite Prevention Program: The Bite Prevention Program is for school children and other children’s groups to help them understand a dog’s and a cat’s body language. This is tremendously important to keep cats, dogs, and children safe.
